bedroom WIP

Creating the home of your dreams is hard, especially when it's your first time having control over the whole place (read: first time not living with 5 roommates). Also especially when you are a renter and can't make any significant changes. Also especially when you are flat out broke because you just graduated from art school. With a little patience and a little elbow grease, I'm slowly but surely turning my bedroom into the curated, minimal relaxing space I've always wanted. (It sure is nice to have a bedroom meant just for sleeping, not also a studio/dining room/office/cat haven.)

So you can see what I had to work with when we moved in, and it was pretty much just a whole bunch of crap thrown everywhere! My biggest challenge for this space was and continues to be tricking people and myself into thinking I live simply and minimally when in reality I'm somewhat of a material and tool hoarder. There's also a built in AC unit that's a huge eyesore, so figuring out a way to disguise it was a priority for me.

Now it's certainly still a work in progress, I think perhaps it's a bit too minimal (is that possible?) and could use some more art, and maybe a real lamp down the road, but for now I'm happy with it.

I disguised the AC but hanging two layers of floor to ceiling curtains, the first layer being far enough out to give the AC and radiator enough space so as not to be a hazard, and the second against the window. It gives the illusion of a much more luxurious window treatment, and the space behind the other curtain left me room to put a bookshelf for hidden storage.

There isn't a lot in here right now, but I would rather slowly curate my space than buy a bunch of things all at once. My favorite pieces are the white metal chair that I got in Savannah and the vanity table because I made it, dedicating months and a lot of hard work to it.

It's coming along!
